How Memoir Writing Works
Have your memoir published and preserve your family story with these easy steps
Step
1
Introduction
Together we will go through the various package options and find the perfect match. You will be able to tell me what type of product you envisage, its size and more generally about your expectations. Start by thinking whether you would like it to be a book about your life journey or perhaps solely focus on one or more important episodes in your life that you want me to write about. After we go through your expectations and decide on the type of product, we can then move to the next phase – interviews.
Step
3
Drafting and Design
In parallel with the interviews, I will transcribe our discussions. After the initial planning meetings, I will propose an outline for your memoir and write a sample chapter. You will be able to review the draft and share any suggestions or recommendations. I will then begin drafting the memoir. Once a complete draft is ready, you will be able to comment on it and suggest any changes.
While you are going through the text, a professional book designer and I will prepare a book cover based on your guidance. Before that, I will help you scan and arrange any selected photos for the book.
Step
2
Interview meet-ups
The heart of the process is the interviews. It is a very conversational process about a specific time in your life you would like to be incorporated into the book. Don’t worry about it, as I have been trained to conduct interviews, and it will feel like you are telling a story to your family or friends.
We will work out a plan of how we will meet and how frequently. Depending on your preference, the interviews can be organised as face-to-face meetings at your home or remotely via telephone or video calls. I am based near Berwick upon Tweed (North Northumberland) but can travel.

Once you are happy with the final text and the book cover, myself and a professional designer will work on the book's layout. I will send it to you for a final approval. After the final approval, your memoir will be printed, and the copies you ordered will be delivered.
